According to reports, Hamas has now rejected the latest ceasefire deal put on the table following weeks of renewed negotiations. With the war ongoing and now threatening to spread across the region, we examine the why part.
The Lowdown
In comments released over the weekend, Hamas claims that it has outright rejected the latest ceasefire offer on a number of grounds. Among the top reasons the group refused the order is the Philadalphi Corridor along the southern edge of the enclave near Egypt. According to the proposal, Israel would’ve maintained a presence along the corridor which Hamas refused.
It is the latest development in the ten month old war that has plagued the region and is threatening to spread to other parts of the Middle East.
