PM calls emergency security meeting as far-right violence continues to spread

As violence contnues to spread, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called an emergency meeting with security officials to determine the next step.

The Lowdown

Over the weekend, tensions brought on by misinformation online helped trigger the onset of what is now the worst disorder the UK has seen in years.  On Sunday, those tensions reached new heights in Rotherdam where two nearby hotels housing migrants were violently attacked by rioters. Rioters according to several reports were overheard shouting ‘get them out.’

Starmer has denounced the violence as ‘thuggery’ that he has vowed to get under control. The AP reports that a security council meeting was called on Sunday after the two hotel attacks in the area.

Some reports suggest that more than 150 people have been arrested so far since the onset of the riots   Yorkshire police on Sunday told numerous outlets that at least ten of its officers were injured one sustaning a major head injury.
