Convicted predator R Kelly is asking a long shot. According to reports, the disgraced music icon turned felon argues his case shouldn’t have existed at all.

Kelly in documents is arguing that the 2003 law that was used to convict him was not applicable because it didn’t yet. Many of Kelly’s crimes were committed in the 90s although there were allegations after the fact.
“Because Congress did not expressly state that the PROTECT Act should apply [retroactively] and even rejected a version of the bill that included a retroactive provision, the PROTECT Act did not extend the statute of limitations and Defendant was convicted of time-barred offenses,” the document reads, per Rolling Stone
