Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg is on trial this week in London stemming from her arrest last year over blocking access to a fossil fuel conference. Thunberg and at least four others are facing a violation of the Public Order Act which allows police in London to impose limits on public assemblies.
The Lowdown
Last October, Grunberg and at least four other activists got into a tussle with police while blocking access to the Energy Intelligence forum. From there, Thunberg and company are accused of intentionally causing a public disturbance whereas the hotel being used for the event was blocked by the activists. The group opposes the UK’s recent approval of a drilling project in the North Sea.
According to the AP, the mishap happened outside of the luxe Intercontinental hotel in London.
