International authorities are still attempting to seize Russian assets but one superyacht in particular is the golden gem of them all. According to reports, a 430-foot superyacht docked in Italy actually does appear to belong to Vladimir Putin, however, federal authorities in Italy haven’t concluded that yet. The fact that nobody has concluded that yet has made it apparently difficult to search and seize the ship because until Italian authorities can determine if the owner is Putin and he is in fact sanctioned (we know he is) they have no right to seize the ship.
The $700m superyacht likely belongs to Putin but has been shrouded in mystery for weeks: Cops
The New York Timees reports that officials in multiple countries do believe that he Scheherazade actually belongs to Putin but an investigation remains underway. Cops in Italy have made it clear though that if the ship chooses too depart before that investigation is final — seizure might be difficult in the coming days. Repairs on the ship are understood to be completed as of last night.
