NYC has seen a stunning surge in shootings; burglaries, and theft during lockdown — explained

Lately, crime in certain parts of New York has almost doubled. According to reports, the city has seen a surge in a number of variant crimes explicitly shootings in at least two or more boroughs. Particularly, public housing complexes have seen a wide-surge in shootings as lockdown orders rage on throughout the boroughs.

In the week ending 10 May, auto thefts were up 38% while shootings and burglaries were up 17% according to NYPD statistics. In Harlem, at the James Weldon Johnson Houses, Richard Robayo, 44, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Police have not yet found his killer according to reports.

One mugging in East New York outside the Pink Houses actually involved a 21-year-old pizza driver run over by attackers trying to steal his pizza.
