In a city plagued by violence; drugs, and chronic homelessness in nearly all five boroughs — Mayor De Blasio is once again kicking off his supposed “mental health initiative” by pumping $21m into “mental health street teams” and other things.
According to the New York Daily News, the monies are set to go to social workers; legal assistances, and teams of people who can hit the streets in hopes of connecting homeless people with mental health professionals.
Also in the midst of such funding, De Blasio is reigniting the enforcement of Kendras Law. Kendras Law is a 2018 piece of legislation that emboldens authorities to force mental health care on those who. “are deemed a threat to themselves or others” whether they like it or not.
