Following the hanging on by a thread cease-fire in Gaza, renewed talks to end the war in Ukraine have re-entered the political sphere. But instead of involving Ukraine, Russian officials and Trumpian officials are secretly drafting a peace plan that does not include Ukraine itself at all. Critics have derided the peace efforts as almost entirely one-sided.
The Lowdown
According to Axios, American and Russian officials have announced that without Ukraine and in near secrecy — they’ve been collaborating on a peace plan in the very country that Russia unlawfully invaded in the first place.
The proposed plan of which contains some 28 points to establish peace includes a near dissolution of all territory unlawfully seized by Russia, and a reduction in Ukraine’s military size. As a plan, it does contain efforts to establish peace in the region and broader European stability — however, it comes at a ginormous cost to Ukraine again which was unlawfully invaded by Russia. America is attempting to co-sign the loss of territories in Ukraine to Russia despite the fact that major crimes have been committed by Russia in the country.
Negotiations for the plan are sponsored by Trump’s right-hand crony Steve Witkoff and Russian official Kirill Dmitriev neither of which have allowed any involvement from a single Ukrainian official.
