Catherine Connolly has come out victorious in the Irish elections. According to reports, the 68-year-old independent politician all but swept the election securing her victory.

Big news in Ireland today following the elections to determine the next President. According to the official tally, Catherine Connolly won the election with some 64% of the ballots counted by the time her rival Heather Humphreys conceded. While her role as President is largely symbolic supporters and critics alike say her win delivers a huge blow to the centrist government currently in power.
