Georgia man arrested after showing up at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport with the intent of shooting up the place police say

A domestic terrorist attack was narrowly avoided today in Georgia. According to reports, police in Georgia have arrested an area man named Billy Joe Cagle, 49, who showed up to the airport this morning heavily armed with the intent of mass harm.

The Lowdown

Troubling news in Atlanta tonight. According to police, Cagle from Cartersville was arrested this morning after his own family tipped off state authorities about his plans to commit mass murder at the city’s busy airport. Cops discovered the situation after his family tipped them off about an alleged livestream online where he openly described his plans on social media.

The tip also helped police track his vehicle once they arrived this morning. Cagle who was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck was armed with an AR-15 and at least 27 rounds of ammunition.

Cartersville police in a press conference following the ordeal had quite a bit to say.

Chief Darin Schierbaum of the Cartersville police department per reports.


“The Cartersville Police Department was alerted by the family of Mr. Cagle that he was streaming on social media that he was headed to the Atlanta airport, in their words, to ‘shoot it up,’ and the family stated that he was in possession of an assault rifle,” Schierbaum said, describing Cagle as a convicted felon during the conference.
