The Lowdown

John Bolton who notoriously served in Donald Trump ‘s first term has now found himself an enemy in his second-term.  According to reports,  Bolton was formally indicted this week in Maryland on 18 charges related to allegations that he supposedly mishandled and later retained classified national security information.

Bolton is accused in essence of sharing national security information in ‘diary like’  fashion with his family members and relatives — a claim he flatly denies citing that the FBI has long been aware of  his disclosures per the AP.

The main difference between the indictments of Letitia James and James Comey were that they were on the grounds that they lied.  This indictment, however, alleges that national security  information was wilfully disclosed.   Elsewhere in the indictment, Bolton is accused of mishandling an e-mail address that saw Iranian state actors hack into the e-mail and therefore had gained access to classified information. This allegedly occurred in 2021 up until this August according to the indictment against him.
