Authorities even years later are still continuing their search for unlawfully received COVID-19 related unemployment benefits. According to reports, the latest scheme involves 13 former LA city employees accused of stealing $437k in benefits.

A startling revelation in Los Angeles today. According to the District Attorney’s Office, 13 people have been charged in connection to a COVID-19 unemployment scam. Officials say the group bilked the system for more than $430,000 in benefits all the while all 13 were still employed by the city. The incidents occurred between 2020 and 2023 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
Some involved worked at the LA County Sheriff’s office, DCFS, and the Department of Public Social Services. Among the biggest of the scam is a huge payment of $57k that went to a 49-year-old social worker that was employed by the city.
