Rapper Nicki Minaj is once again making headlines for the wrong reasons. According to reports, the Pink Friday rapper is allegedly in financial trouble amid claims that her debts are not being properly paid.
The Lowdown
A shocking new report in US Weekly has painted a damning image of Nicki Minaj. According to the magazine, she and her husband Kenneth Petty are ensnared in a legal battle involving debts that he racked up but refuse to pay.
The debt per the magazine involves a man named Thomas Weidenmuller who was awarded a settlement this month in relation to a 2019 assault case after being assaulted by Petty at the time. He was formally awarded $503,000 on 6 October.
The man’s lawyer also per the magazine had this to say following the judgement against the troubled couple.
Thomas’s lawyers in comments to US Weekly following the revelations of the debt owed by Minaj and Petty.
“Although it is regrettable that the extraordinary measure of forcing the sale of Minaj’s dwelling is required, that result is entirely the product of her intransigence in not making payment. Minaj is a global music superstar, estimated to have a net worth of anywhere between $150-190 million, and is reportedly the highest paid female rap star in the world. There is little doubt that she is highly capable of paying the judgment in full and, yet, she has refused to do so despite multiple written requests for payment and levies served upon several of her suspected creditors.”
What happened?
So here’s the backstory. On 22 March 2019, Thomas alleges that during a concert in Germany, a fan managed to breach the stage and get up and next to Minaj herself. He was working security during the event. At the time he claims that Petty was soon informed of the mix-up who then got a message back to him to attend to Minaj’s dressing room.
From there it allegedly got violent. According to the suit that was brought against the couple, Thomas alleged that when he went to Nicki’s room he was hit in the face by Petty in the presence of Minaj and two security guards.
