A shocking memo unearthed inside the Pentagon has sparked national outrage. According to the memo, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has ordered that all journalists who have credentialed access inside the Pentagon must sign a draconian new agreement or face being booted all together.
The Lowdown
Trampling all over the First Amendment a draconian new memo from the Pentagon has sparked the ire of journalists and other nationwide. According to the memo, Hegseth is now demanding that journalists with access must agree to sign a new agreement (that completely obliterates the 1A) in order to keep their access and credentials. In essence, the agreement bans military personnel from making unauthorized disclosrues to the media.
The rule in full would limit reporters from communicating with military servicemembers all together. It also states that asking personnel to commit ‘criminal’ acts (like “unauthorized disclosures”) would not be something that would be protected by the 1A.
It gets worse. Journalists who don’t sign the agreement appear to have until 5pm tonight to do so or clean out their desks and turn in their badges.
