America ‘s long discussed hostile takeover of US TikTok is here. According to reports, a deal between the U.S China and TikTok is approaching and the details are beginning to emerge.

The Lowdown

America ‘s long awaited takeover of TikTok (hostile at that) is here. According to the government, a deal between Bytedance (TikTok ‘s Chinese owner), the American government, and the Chinese government has been reached. Capitol Bazaar reports that the Chinese agreed to such a deal and the terms as read out below last week in Madrid during a bilateral meeting.

What to expect:

1. TikTok itself through its owner ByteDance will create a dupe algorithm explicity for the United States.
2. That algo will then be controlled by a series of billionaires (yes you’re reading that correctly) that are all closely aligned with the Trump Adminstration and its values.
3. This is not a pure sale the algorithm will be leased to the new version of TikTok only in the United States. It is not a pure sale because that would mean TikTok would not be able to operate outside of the United States.
4. According to the U.S government, Michael Dell (billionaire), the Murdochs (also billionaires, think Fox News) will all be a part of the finalized deal.
