PASADENA, CA — (September 4, 2025)— In August, it was announced that the final chapter in the WTF podcast’s exciting history would be an original graphic novel from Z2, titled WTF IS A PODCAST created by Marc’s longtime producer Brendan McDonald and acclaimed cartoonist Brian Box Brown, documenting and recounting the official history of the podcast from 2004-2025.
Marc Maron shares “The success of WTF still seems unreal to me, so it makes sense for the definitive story to be told by a great cartoonist and Box Brown is the perfect guy to do it. This is a fantastic way for fans to relive the entire run of the podcast without needing to listen to thousands of hours of material again.”
The book announcement came with the news that, while the project is fully funded, Z2 and Marc are utilizing Kickstarter as a platform to launch the book, in order to provide fans access to special one-of-a-kind items, direct from Marc’s garage as he disassembles and says goodbye to the WTF studio once and for all. Now, with the official launch of the Kickstarter, those special items can be revealed! The backer tiers contain super rare items from Marc Maron’s personal WTF vault, including:
- Rare Marc Maron gig posters from his personal collection
- Rare WTF water bottles
- Rare WTF buttons
- Rare WTF Cat Mugs
- Rare MTV-STYLE WTF SHIRT signed by Marc Maron
- Signed copies of Marc’s books Attempting Normal and Waiting for the Punch
- The opportunity to be drawn into the graphic novel
- A WTF windscreen from the WTF Podcast, used by over 200+ guests, signed by Marc Maron
- A massive Ted Munz Light-up WTF Mosaic
- The ON CAMERA COSTUME PROP HAT from the Joker movie – signed by Marc Maron – with the logo of The Murray Franklin Show.
- Rare Marc Maron Live CDs from his personal collection
- And, the most unbelievable tier of all… the opportunity to be a guest on your own dedicated WTF episode, interviewed by Marc, himself!
The Kickstarter campaign for WTF IS A PODCAST will run through October 4th, 2025, and has a very limited availability for many of the tiers. When these one-of-a-kind tiers are sold out, they are gone forever, so Z2 is encouraging all WTFers, WTFBuddies and WTFnicks to head as quickly as they can to the campaign page HERE. In addition to the standard edition book, there are also oversized deluxe editions, and a limited number of signed Platinum editions available. These books are included in the upper tier pledges, as well as special one-of-a-kind items, direct from Marc’s garage.
Brian Box Brown is contributing copies of his book LEGALIZATION NATION to some of the tiers, adding “I remember listening to episode 1 of WTF, following Marc from Breakroom Live. WTF got me through drawing thousands of pages of comics as I tread through my career. Maron’s resiliency and self-reflection resonated with me deeply. I am excited and proud to be able to document the journey in the best way I know how: through comics. And hopefully I can shed some light on the magic of WTF with Marc Maron.”
“WTF has always been more than a podcast: it’s a trailblazing cultural landmark,” shares Kevin Meek, CEO of Z2. “Expanding WTF’s impact into a graphic novel, with the immense talent of Box Brown, gives fans a new way to celebrate Marc’s journey and the show’s legacy for generations to come. This is a milestone collaboration for Z2, and we’re thrilled to bring it to the page.”
