Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed on Sunday what many already suspected: the Trump Adminstration plans to pursue its law enforcement efforts in other major cities mimicking that of the current operation in Washington DC.
The Lowdown
On Sunday ‘s episode of CBS News’ Face the Nation, Noem said that they intend to add more resources to existing operations in Chicago but also wouldn’t say much regarding the full expansion of the operation nationwide.
“We’ve already had ongoing operations with ICE in Chicago and throughout Illinois and other states, making sure that we’re upholding our laws, but we do intend to add more resources to those operations.” Noem said on the program.
The comments come as leaders in Chicago are pushing back against the liklihood of increased law enforcement officials in the area. According to an executive ordered signed by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson he has directed the city’s legal department to explore ways to counter any increase in law enforcement in the city. The order also covers any deployment of National Guard troops.
On Saturday during a press conference, Johnson warned that Chicago officials had received credible information that law enforcement officials and national guards troops were coming within days not weeks.
