In South Korea the administration of former President Yoon Suk-Yeol is back in the news. According to reports, his wife former First Lady Kim Keon Hee and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo were both indicted on Friday as part of Yoon ‘s previous attempt at declaring martial law — that later ended his Presidency all together.
The Lowdown
South Korea’ s former glamorous first lady Kim Keon Hee and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo have both been indicted as part of formal investigations into the ousted administration of Yoon Suk-Yeol. Suk-Yeol was famously removed as President last year following an ill-advised attempt at declaring martial law in the country.
According to special prosecutor Min Joong-ki, the former first lady was charged with violating financial market and political funding laws and receiving outright obvious bribes. The moves come just two weeks after a previous court order ordered her arrest. On part of the former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, he has been charged with abetting Yoon ‘s impostion of martial law — which investigators and lawmakers famously at the time called an outright rebellion. He was also charged with destroying official documents and tampering with them, and lying numerous times under oath.
