Chinese man jailed in US for sending large cache of weapons to North Korea: Officials

A weapons smuggling ring unraveled.  According to reports, a Chinese national has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for smuggling weapons and other military items to North Korea.  

The Lowdown

The Department of Justice reports that Shenghua Wen, 42,  earned up to $2m from officials in North Korea to ship the items from California to the reclusive hermit kingdom. Wen ‘s arrest was formally announced on Monday.  A former resident of Ontario, California, they have been detained since December 2024.

Wen’s case is the latest recent example of the many ways that North Korea manages to successfully get around international sanctions. Wen per the DOJ was in the country illegally with his visa having expired back in December 2013.
