American fast-casual chains Chipotle and Cava are teaming up for a diabolical reason. According to reports, the two chains are teaming up to ensure that unironically they don’t always have to meet minimum wage requirements in the modern workplace.
The Lowdown
If you’re an employee at either CAVA or Chipotle two of America ‘s biggest fast-casual chains you might want to see this. According to reports, the chains have invested jointly $25m into a company called Hyphen. Hyphen is a California based company that builds ‘digital makelines’ to assemble bowls and salads without *any* human interaction.
It looks ordinary to those not in the know but to those in the know they know. Below the counter (outside of view of what customers regularly would see) Hyphen ‘s robots glides bowls down an assembled tracked, stopping under each bin to precisely with almost surgical like precision deliver portion for online or app orders.
On part of the robots, they cannot actually roll burritos for Chipotle or assemble similar at CAVA. The investment comes amid rising restaurant wages and the refusal by corporate overlords to pay more.
In California particularly the minimum wage is $20/hour. Restaurant industry insiders told Bazaar Insider on Thursday that consumers can expect that such partnerships with robitics companies are probably going to become the norma in the future.
In other restaurant news this year, Wendy’s, IHOP, and Sweetgreen all began integrating AI into their operations. Yum Brands, which owns Taco Bell, launched a AI voice recognition software in at least 500 of their drive-thurs.
