Donald Trump is gleefully beaming this weekend following a Supreme Court ruling that expanded his powers. According to that ruling, Trump ‘s executive order attempting to eliminate birthright citizenship in the United States can come into play in 30 days.
The Lowdown
On Friday, the Supreme Court handed down a ruling that enhances the power of Donald Trump and future American presidents. Among the chief parts of the order, lower courts have had their ability to block executive orders dramatically limited. It comes after a host of judges across the nation have blocked numerous executive orders all in regards to Trump ‘s efforts to advance his hard-right authoritarian agenda.
The ruling on its head grants the Trump administration the right to no longer automatically grant citizenship to everyone born on American soil. It must be stated that such is only for now though.  WH officials do still have to implement the plan which will be no easy feat for an administration notorious for its disorgnaization and prone to gaffes.
The birthright order will not go into effect for at least 30 calendar days. It was also found that the Supreme Court left open room for lower courts to curb the impact on those who have legal standing to sue over the matter.
Generally speaking, states handled processing birth certificates in a particular fashion — that fashion being that they do not collect the citizenship of the parents at the time of birth. In some states particularly Democratic led states this is a commonplace find. Democratic states have made it clear that they’d be in no rush to suddenly start collecting such information regardless of how this entire situation actually plays out.
The Supreme Court is expected to formally decide whether or not birthright citizenship is to be ended in October during its next session. But the consequences of the recent ruling cannot be understated.
