The Lowdown

Military officials in Denmark have deployed a novel approach of their own to fight off maritime attacks and recent sabotage efforts.  According to reports, the country’s military plans to keep the ships in play for about three months for an operational trial.

Two Voyagers took off Monday from Koge Marina, about 25miles south of Copenhagen. Interestingly, the ships are powered by wind and solar energy and are capable of being at sea for months even though they are unmanned.

The ships are built by California based company Saildrone and are expected to patrol Danish and NATO waters in both the Baltic and North Seas. In recent months, there have been several efforts to sabotage undersea cables 11 of which have been destroyed since 2023 alone.  Most recently, an underwater cable connecting Lavia and Sweden ‘s Gotland island was destroyed in January.
