The Lowdown
According to the New York Times, WhatsApp is making a big change that has upset some people. Following an announcement at the Cannes Lions advertising conference, WhatsApp is undergoing a change, and perhaps not for the better. With the introduction of ads, they will, according to the company, only be featured in the updates section of the app, which is used by around 1.5 billion people daily. Advertisements will not be featured in private messages or calls, or anywhere else the company claims. The Times also finds that the ads featured in the app will collect information from users, including device language and location.
