Captain arrested after boat in NYC waters explodes forcing 23 passengers to swim for their lives

Justice in the case of a boat captain who was at the helm of a 35-foot boat on Saturday when it exploded while in NYC’s waters.

The Lowdown

Wild news in Manhattan this weekend. According to reports, Joshua Brito, 33, is looking at several charges including driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment following the fiery explosion on Saturday.   The incident reportedly happened near Hart Island around 9pm Saturday.  Some 22 people suffered minor injuries but all were able to safely make it back to land.

Brito is pending arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court as of Sunday.   The boat used a Carver 35 is only designed to carry about 15 people despite the boat carrying 23 individuals.
