In end to shocking case, South African Mom sentenced to life for selling her own daughter in truly bizarre case

A South African Mom in a case that generated widespread criticism and international attention is going to prison for life.   According to reports, Kelly Smith, Jacquen Apollis, and their pal Steveno Van Rhyn were all convicted in the kidnapping and trafficking of Smith’s own daughter.

The Lowdown

Shock in South Africa today as a Mom her boyfriend and their accomplice are all headed to prison for their role in the kidnapping of her daugther.   The Mom Kelly Smith with the help of her boyfriend Jacquen Apollis and their pal Steveno Van Rhyn were all convicted in the kidnapping and trafficking of the young girl, Joshlin Smith,  following her disappearance  in the Western cape.

The case which shocked the country, began to unfold after Smith allegedly sold her daughter to what is called a sangoma, or traditional healer for about 20,000 rand ($1,121.93 USD.)  Some reports suggest that the young girl may have been desired for her eyes and skin. Despite massive police efforts  she still has not been found.
