Mineral Deal: What to know about the rare minerals deal between Ukraine and U.S

But critics and those actually in Ukraine aren’t quite sure how this will play out.  According to reports, the long-awaited minerals deal providing U.S access to Ukraine ‘s rare resources arrived this week.

The Lowdown

The agreement long sought by the U.S following Trump ‘s return to the White House, comes  more than three long years into  Russia ‘s unlawful  full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Per the agreement, the deal allows the United States preferential access to Kyiv’s natural resources but not without a reported cost. In exchange,  Kyiv would see the formation of a reconstruction investment fund for Ukraine.

Trump from the start of his second term pushed for the deal as a way for America to supposedly be compensated for the aid provided to Ukraine during the war.   That means that the U.S will now have access to monetize the country ‘s rare earths, critical minerals, oil, gas, and other natural resources.

Ukrainian officials on X confirmed news of the deal also confirming that  Ukraine will retain the right to determine what and where to extract from their natural resources according to  translations of their posts.
