SCOTUS blocks deportations under Alien Enemies Act at least for now

In a temporary win for due process, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Trump Administration must cease deporting Venezuelan migrants.

The Lowdown

Migrants that the Trump Administration maintains are so called members of the violent Tren De Aragua gang. The early morning ruling on Saturday was the result of a case brought by a group of immigrants who say they are the latest targets being prepped for removal.

In its ruling, the court said: “The government is directed not to remove any member of the putative class of detainees from the United States until further order of this court.”
