Hungary bans LGBTQ+ events will use facial recognition to identify ‘offenders’

Hungary’s populist government strikes again. A ccording to a constitutional amendment, LGBTQ+ events are now banned nationwide.

The Lowdown

According to a newly official constitutional amendment such gatherings are now banned throughout Hungary. The new rules are part of a longstandng effort by Viktor Orban’s government to erase the LGBTQ+ community from Hungarian society.

The amendment passed along party lines with 27 voting against. BBC notes that authorities confirmed that facial recognition in connection to the ban may be used to identify offenders.
