France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen has been found guilty of embezzling European Union funds. The stunning verdict against her is likely career ending.

The Lowdown

According to reports, French far-right politician Marine Le Pen has been found guilty of embezzling European Union funds. The stunning verdict against her caps a 9 week trial that saw her and at least 24 other figures stand trial against claims that dating back as far as 2004 to 2016— €3m euros was misused by Le Pen and company to pay party staff instead of what the funds were actually allocated for.

The court has not yet announced her sentence.

According to the case against Le Pen, she has been four-year prison sentence with two years suspended, to be served under house arrest, and a €100,000 ($108,000) fine, and is banned from the next Presidential race in 2027.
