Despite a court order Donald Trump appears to have no intent on stopping deportation flights to El Salvador. According to reports, a flight carrying hundreds of Venezuelans left for the South American nation over the weekend (despite orders for the plane to turn around.)

The Lowdown

Axios reports that the group of men is headed for life behind bars inside El Salvador’s notoriously intense prison system championed by the country’s President Bukele. The outlet notes that the country has agreed to keep about 300 prisoners a year at a cost to the United States of about $6m. US District Judge James Boasberg issued the ruling to stop the deportations.

“We sent over 250 alien enemy members of Tren de Aragua which El Salvador has agreed to hold in their very good jails at a fair price that will also save our taxpayer dollars,” Secretary Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on X. Trump declared ‘war’ on the so-called gang members by way of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.
