South Africa ‘s first openly gay Imam killed

Tragedy in South Africa this week according to reports. According to them,  Muhsin Hendricks was killed on Saturday allegedly over his teachings and beliefs.

The Lowdown

Widely regarded as the first openly Gay Muslim Imam in South Africa —  Hendricks died on Saturday after a reported assassination in the city of Gqeberha.  Acording to police,  two masked gunman opened fire on his car  from their pick-up truck which was captured on security footage.  Hendricks was riding with a driver though the driver is understood to have survived.

No motive for the murder has been discovered as of yet.  Some in South Africa are calling his death an assassination over the fact he openly was gay and often encouraged members of the LGBTQ+ community to join the Islamic faith.  Homosexuality is forbidden in the Islamic religion and is often punishable by death  under antiquated laws.
