Venezuela ‘s dictator Nicolas Maduro is once again in the headlines amid claims of government-sponsored escalating violence.

The Lowdown

Allegations that have now surfaced thanks to the government of Chile. According to reports, investigators claim along with several officials that ‘credible evidence’ ties Maduro to the murder of a political rival.

Reuters reports that the deceased has been identified as longtime Maduro rival Ronald Ojeda.  Ojeda was a former army officer who failed early on with a series of attempts to overthrow Maduro. Investigators only recently managed to tie the reported evidence to Maduro in connection to the 2024 case.

The Times also notes that the murder was carried out by alleged members of the Tren De Aragua street gang that has been terrorizing a number of places  in recent months.

THE FACTS

Last year,  Ronald Ojeda turned up dead buried in cement while on foreign soil. Ojeda had previously fled Venezuela amid the government’s widespread crackdown on any and all opposition against Nicolas Maduro’s regime. So far at least 20 alleged gang members have been arrested and or questioned in connection to the murder.

The murder came at a time in which Venezuela ‘s Maduro has been accused of a host of crimes against humanity; violations of human rights in Venezuela, and rigging elections in favor of the regime rather than the opposition.
