The Lowdown

Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is facing further legal issues this week following his arrest over his failed martial law declaration last year. Yeol last year notably attempted to declare martial law but that was short-lived leading to his high-profile arrest earlier this month. In South Korea, the charge he is facing carries either life in prison or the death penalty.

Yeol ‘s martial declaration not only shook South Korea to its core it caused so much turmoil the revolt at the time was almost immediate. On top of his indictment, Yeol is also facing a Constitutional Court hearing where it will be decided if he will be removed as President or reinstated.
