According to reports, Pete Hegseth’s nomination faced renewed criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike after his former sister-in-law claimed in a sworn statement that he was abusive towards his ex-wife Samantha. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins are the two Republicans who are now opposed.
On Murkowski’s part, she attempted to elaborate on her decision in a statement posted to X.
While I appreciate his courageous military service and his ongoing commitment to our servicemembers and their families, I am concerned that he does not have the experience and perspective necessary to succeed in the job,” Senator Collins stated on her decision per CBS News.
