Woman burned alive on NYC subway identified as 57-year-old woman from NJ

The woman who was notoriously burned alive on a Brooklyn subway has been identified.

The Lowdown

According to the NYPD, the woman who was infamously set ablaze aboard an idle train at the Coney Island station earlier this month has been identified. On Tuesday, police identified the deceased victim as Debrina Kawam from Toms River, New Jersey.

Kawam was set ablaze as she was asleep on an idle F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station on 22 December shortly after 0730. Sebastián Zapeta-Calil a Guatemalan national is in custody in connection to her murder.

UPDATE

2:38 pm EST 31 December 2024

Cops have now corrected the record stating the woman was 57 and not 61.
