French man Dominique Pelicot is going to prison for 20 years in a case that shocked quite literally the world. Pelicot, along with 50 others, drugged and raped Gisèle Pelicot against her will for many years.

The Lowdown

Infamous French man Dominique Pelicot has been found guilty of one of the most shocking crimes France has seen in years. According to case, the case began about a decade ago when Pelicot now 72, began drugging (against her own knowledge and will) his wife Gisèle and then sexually abusing her.

But to say the case stopped there is simply an understatement. Pelicot per the case then invited some 50 men to join him in sexually assaulting Mrs Pelicot who bravely come forth throughout the trial to tell her side of the story after initially being unknown to the public.

Perhaps an even more shocking part of the case is that many of these men held positions of trust including firefighters, lorry drivers, soldiers, security guards, a journalist and a DJ.

According to BBC, one of the men copied Pelicot ‘s own playbook and mimicked the sexual assaults against his own wife which added fuel to the shocking case that gripped France for some time. BBC notes that all 51 men have been found guilty most of which have 10 days to appeal.
