Marking the chain’s second round of closures this year. According to Walgreens, some 1,200 stores are headed for the chopping block. Back in June, Walgreens announced 500 store closures that were ‘underperforming.’

According to CNN, between now and 2027 the huge number of closures will come to reality as many Walgreens locations struggle to remain profitable. Some of the reasons why some locations aren’t doing so well include inflation and prescription reimbursement rates changing.

Competition from places like Amazon have also contributed to the decline of the drug store.
