Hillary Clinton: The government must act on censoring online content

Former U.S Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is back in the headlines. In an interview on Saturday, Clinton struck a cord when she suggested that the U.S government need to enforce stronger censorship.

The Lowdown

The interview with Michael Smerconish of CNN has sparked viral outrage. Several of Clinton ‘s suggestions during the interview made it evident that censorship will remain a hot-button topic throughout the election. Some takeaways from the eyebrow raising interview.

  • Clinton suggested that Section 230 of the Communications Act should be repealed.

Section 230 of the Comms Act in a nutshell shields platforms from issues that arise from content that users post on said platform.

  • Clinton also suggested that governments should do more to ‘enforce’ censorship otherwise ‘control will be lost of citizens.’

Clinton maintains that her comments and the topic at hand are to safeguard the lives of children online although critics and social media users have rightfully questioned the comments.
