Following high-profile arrest, Telegram founder announces platform changes

Following Pavel Durov ‘s arrest in France new rules and policies are coming to the Russian billionaire ‘s Telegram platform.

According to a Telegram post by Durov, the platform will begin ‘taking a more proactive’ approach to removing problematic content. The move comes after Durov ‘s own arrest in France where authorities accused Durov of failing to moderate content and allowing the sale of illicit items. Telegram is widely popular among various sectors of society including people who often aren’t up to any good. The same post revealed that Telegram intends to cooperate with law enforcement agencies ‘under legit’ requests.

What went down

Durov was arrested on 27 August at the  Le Bourget airport not too far outside of Paris. At the time he was charged with a list of counts including failing to curb extremist and terrorist content and released on a €5m ($5.6m) bail
