Genetic testing company 23 and Me is facing a huge bill. According to reports, the company will pay upwards of $30m in a huge settlement over last year’s huge data breach.
The Lowdown
Last year some 6.9m user accounts were compromised; accessed, and the respective data later outright stolen. At the time, reports claimed the hack targeted specific ethnic groups before going on to sell the data on the dark web.
Chinese and Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry profiles were specifically singled out during the hack. The settlement is preliminary and still requires a judges approval.
