Caban is out. As reported earlier this week, Caban has formally resigned amid a slew of allegations and a corruption investigation by the FBI.

The Lowdown

Troubled Edward Caban who had his phone seized on Wednesday is now out of a job. According to an email circulating sent by Caban, he appeared to acknowledge recent events and the investigation and that both had become distractions for the NYPD.

I hold immense respect and gratitude for the brave officers who serve this department, and the NYPD deserves someone who can solely focus on protecting and serving New York City, which is why—for the good of this city and this department—I have made the difficult decision to resign as police commissioner,”

The investigation at least concerning the Caban’s stems from police concern that his brother James may have been paid for favorable treatment from the police. It is one of many investigations into the government of Eric Adams.

Caban had spent only a year in the post.
