Following the weekend arrest of Pavel Durov, new details are trickling out of France as to the why he was arrested part and it isn’t looking pretty.
The Lowdown
According to NBC News, the arrest of billionaire Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov isn’t quite as cut and dry as it initially seemed. The arrest appears to centre around a series of claims involving alleged complicity in child exploitation and that of actual drugs.
For those who don’t use Telegram, the app is and has long had a reputation for basically freewheeling it in terms of content moderation.
Prosecutors in Paris claim that Durov who is still in custody was arrested following the claims made by a singular person. Those claims involve numerous cases of child exploitation and drug complicity allegedly that took place on Telegram.
Telegram has long refused to cooperate with most forms of law enforcement and does not have a concrete content moderation policy.
