Donald Trump is still teasing a Presidential run in 2024 and the outcome of that might actually be even scarier for American Democracy. According to CNN, Trump at his latest event/rally has reiterated that if elected again he will likely pardon those who tried to overthrow the government.
“If I run and if I win, we will treat those people from January 6 fairly. We will treat them fairly,” Trump said. “And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons. Because they are being treated so unfairly.”
It’s a disgrace. It’s a disgrace,” Trump said of the prosecutions and prison sentences rioters have faced.
Interestingly, most Republicans want the rioters forgiven and forgotten but Democrats aren’t having it. The Jan 6 committee has issued scores of subpoenas to people and organisations they believe had a part or a role in the insurrection against the government. Trump ‘s comments only make it appear even more that GOPers can get away with bloody murder and won’t face any sort of consequences.
