There aren’t enough words in the English language to share how proud we are of Astronaut Jessica Watkins. According to NASA, Watkins is set to depart in April on a 6 month mission above us on the ISS. This would normally be a fairly forward thing, however, a Black woman has never been part of the crew to do so until now.
According to official stats, 7 of the 249 people ever to go up there have been Black none of those were a Black woman.
Jessica Watkins will make her first trip to space on the SpaceX Crew-4 mission, targeted to launch in April 2022. She's a geologist who worked at @NASAAmes & @NASAJPL prior to being selected for our most recent class of @NASA_Astronauts: https://t.co/btlgMrF5kO pic.twitter.com/OMFBPtb4tj
