A particular GOP member of Congress has some explaining to do. According to reports & the FBI, GOP Rep Jeff Fortenberry was indicted this week on campaign finance fraud charges. Those charges allege that Fortenberry accepted and assisted in funnelling tons of money into his accounts from a then undisclosed Nigerian billionaire.
Fortenberry has long maintained that he was unaware of any associates connected to the reported billionaire and maintains his innocence. It is alleged that he illegally received roughly $180,000 in campaign funds dating back to 2016 that he didn’t disclose to the feds. Those monies were like the other funds also alleged to have been sent into the United States between a number of groups in California.
