Ochsner Health workers in Louisiana are in for what is understood to be a nationwide first. According to reports, the healthcare system in Louisiana is preparing to begin charging people $100 per pay period if their spouse is unvaccinated (though it appears they can ask for a religious exemption.)

The shocking “spousal fee” will begin next year because domestic partners and spouses are often covered by said health insurance of their spouse at least at this establishment. Math estimates put the fees at about $2,400 a year and are meant to encourage families to further get vaccinated according to several published reports.

NBC reports that the move isn’t a mandate but the fee will go into play for those who don’t meet the vaccine recommendations.
