Call it the year of invasions and coups. Alike Afghanistan, the country of Guinea has also recently suffered its own transfer of power at now desire of its own. Early last month the country underwent an entire coup after former special forces leader Col. Mamady Doumbouya, toppled the government and arrested the previous president entirely.
As one would expect the move has resulted in a constitutional crisis in the country. On Tuesday, the leader of Junta began making orders in the country by summoning former government ministers to official places of legislature to make their demands. Reports indicate that those ministers were guaranteed that so long as they didn’t leave the country, and handed over government vehicles, that they would not be hunted down by militia members.
On Sunday the criminal leader attempted to downplay reports of a coup and defended his takeover.
“Our action is not a coup d’etat,” he said, per the Washington Post. “It only reflects the legitimate aspiration of people to want to live in an environment where basic human needs can be met.”
