Understood to be called the “Lambda” strain — the new COVID-19 variant appears to have originated in Peru and has scared health officials in the area. According to multiple reports, the United States is not gotten hit just yet but the virus strain has been detected virtually almost everywhere else.
Official government figures in the U.K confirmed that at least 8 known cases of the “highly contagious” delta variant have surfaced in the country. It is unclear if any of those patients have actually died from the variant.
Health officials have indicated that they understand the variant to have emerged in August of last year although it did not become an international problem until recently. This study published last week in a blue print style handout from scientists in the area appeared to suggest that the strain is heavily vaccine-resistant.
