Fresh off of a win from the coveted Kentucky Derby the winning horse Medina Spirit apparently was on anti-inflammatory drugs beyond the legal limits in the area.

Officials made the disappointing discovery after a post-race drug test took place this past week which has startled racing fans. Racing officials revealed that Medina reportedly tested positive for elevated levels of betamethasone, which is allowed, although there is a lawful legal limit in Kentucky.

The horse’s trainer Bob Baffert has denied that the horse was ever intentionally treated with the drug and notes that per CNN an investigation is underway into how exactly it happened. It remains unclear on that front how the drug actually made it into the horse’s system.

“Yesterday I got the biggest gut punch in racing for something that I didn’t do,” Baffert said, adding it was an “injustice to the horse.””I don’t feel embarrassed, I feel like I was wronged. But I’m going to fight it.”
