In one of the most bizarre serial killer cases humankind has probably ever seen, The Grim Sleeper (aka Lonnie Franklin) died this weekend in prison. Franklin was sentenced to death for at least 10 (known) murders of various young women in 2016.

It wasn’t until the early 2000 ‘s when new DNA technology and DNA matching capabilities emerged that authorities placed a match to his relative. There, they managed to connect Franklin ‘s DNA to nearly all of the heinous murders.

Franklin notoriously terrorised parts of Los Angeles from 1987 clear until 2007. It was decades before Los Angeles police and federal authorities actually captured him, mostly because at the time there was a large and sizeable biased towards poor black communities — and even a larger one against women who were in that category.

He died while incarcerated at San Quentin Prison in the state of California.
